ON THE DOORSTEP

Local independent shops will cover your everyday needs when you’re living in Sherburn in Elmet. There’s a butcher, grocers, pharmacy, opticians, post office, hairdressers and shops close by, as well as a small, twice-weekly market selling flowers and fresh produce. 

There are many great walks within a few miles of your new home in Sherburn in Elmet. Close to the entrance to Panache you’ll find Pasture Park, with a children’s play area, football pitch and all-weather pitch for sports including tennis and netball.

Lotherton Hall, 4 miles away, is an Edwardian estate set across grand gardens. Special events regularly take place, although it’s an ideal place to visit all-year round. Sherburn le Willows is a mile from Panache and is home to a nature reserve perfect for a weekend wander.

Children aged 11-18 attend Sherburn High School, 1 mile away, which has some brilliant facilities including a indoor swimming pool and a youth and activities centre.

Selby College, 9.8 miles away, was the first in Yorkshire and Humber to receive an outstanding rating by Ofsted and is one of the top-performing higher education colleges in the country. 

The University of Leeds, 15.2 miles away, features in the world’s top 100 universities and offers courses for post-and undergraduates.

Keeping fit 
The open space close to home is great for running and cycling, but if you’re looking for something more adrenalin-fuelled, a variety of classes such as dance, Pilates and karate run at Eversley Park Centre, less than half a mile away. A mile from Panache is Fitness Motion, with a greater choice of classes and facilities, including a fully equipped gym, accessible with membership or on a pay-as-you-go basis. 

White Rose Park, 0.8 miles away, has a football pitch, tennis courts and play area. The Sports and Social Club has recently been refurbished and is home to Sherburn White Rose FC, which has a number of teams including junior and women’s clubs


Staying healthy 
Your nearest local GP – Sherburn Group Practice – is only half a mile from home, and local dental practice – Elmet Dental – even closer. The New Selby War Memorial Hospital is a 9.4 mile drive from Panache, and Pontefract General slightly further at 9.7 miles away.

Your public transport connections
Sherburn in Elmet railway station, 0.8 miles away, is on the Dearne Valley and Hull-York lines. Regular services are available to York, Pontefract, Rotherham, Sheffield, and Hull via Selby. 

Alternatively, South Milford station, 1 mile away, has further services to Huddersfield, Leeds and Manchester Victoria and has recently undergone a refurbishment. 

The 402 and 403 Arriva bus services run through Sherburn from Selby to Leeds. The 422 and 423 Utopia services run from York to Pontefract, while the 492 and 493 Arriva services run to Tadcaster.

SHOPPING

The main shopping area in the village is a short walk away on Low Street and Finkle Hill, within a mile of Panache. Here you’ll find a variety of independent shops including a fishmonger, greengrocer, butcher, a bakery, pharmacy and gift and card shops.

An outdoor market is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the main car park on Low Street, outside the Elmet Social Club. There is also a Boots Chemist, as well as local supermarkets such as the Co-operative Food and a newly-opened Aldi 0.3 miles from the development, both open until 10pm most nights.

Where to shop further afield
The nearby market town of Selby, 9 miles from Panache, host a farmers’ market on the first Wednesday of every month and a weekly market every Monday, where you’ll find everything from artisanal coffee and local produce, to clothes and accessories.

For more retail therapy and the full range of high street stores, the city centres of York and Leeds are both less than 20 miles away. Junction 32 Outlet Shopping Village is 10.8 miles away in Castleford, home to all the big names in fashion and homewares.

UP AND COMING

Work has begun on transforming a 75-acre site in Sherburn in Elmet into a £105 million North Yorkshire business park. It is set to create 2,550 jobs in the area, in turn boosting the local economy.

Selby District Council has also pledged £20,000 to help set up the Sherburn Craft and Food Festival. The three-day festival will be held over the August bank holiday and looks set to become an annual event.

More than 100 food and craft stalls will be available, as well as cookery demonstrations from famous chefs, lessons for children, live entertainment and much more. All money raised from the festival will be put back into the village for the benefit of the local residents and the local economy.
