Top interior trends for 2024

Colour Drenching

For 2024 we have started to see a lot of colour drenching - this means the majority of the interior is made up of natural and neutral tones and then a couple of elements are drenched in colour. From vibrant cobalt to fantastic fuchsia, these colourful items can even be different colours in the same room, but they need to be bright and exciting.

Including these statement pieces not only brings colour into the room but a little curiosity too – you’re bound to be able to start a conversation about a bright red sideboard compared to your typical beige!

There are a couple of ways you can incorporate those pops of colour – why not try a large sofa or armchair in a saturated hue? It will instantly become the focal point, especially if you use gorgeous jewel tones like emerald green or sapphire blue for a luxurious feel or sunshine yellow or coral pink for a vibrant energy.

Floor-to-ceiling curtains can also add some dramatic colour and create a sense of grandeur. Deeper tones like burgundy or a rich forest green add sophistication, while a vibrant turquoise or sunshine yellow can bring back memories of a favourite holiday or just add a little fun.

We are using this trend in a couple of the rooms for the new interior design of the Sublime show homes. If you’re thinking of carrying this trend into your Strata home, it’s important to remember less is more. Colour drenching has the most impact when you only use it in a couple of key areas. Want to know more about the process that goes into building a new home? Check out our guide on the stages of a new build home.

Mixing Natural Materials

We’ve seen a significant increase in natural materials being used within interiors for some time, and for 2024 things seem to be moving even more in that direction. The use of natural materials, especially the concept of mixing different natural materials, like wicker and concrete, or stone and oak, within one space.

Rather similar to colour drenching, these can come together to make stunning statement pieces in a room, such as a concrete and wood fireplace, or a stunning end table that adds unique form and shape to an otherwise more neutral space.

This trend would be really easy to bring into your own Strata home, especially if you have an existing coffee table that’s wood - you could add a stone side table to overlap and add in that second, natural finish.

Another way to create that casual, organic feel is to incorporate woven materials like jute, rattan, or wicker through furniture pieces, rugs, lampshades, or baskets. These natural textures add depth and visual interest to a room, and the muted tones add an extra connection to nature.

Our Strata homes aim to be as eco-friendly as possible, and to do this we use a lot of natural features and materials.

So, you may find that this trend lends itself well to the features you’ll already find in a Strata eco-friendly home – read our guide on eco-friendly homes to find out more.

Flexible Lighting

We’re also shining a spotlight on lighting, and how it can be used in interiors to add drama and focus to specific items, with drop pendants and feature wall lights playing heavily into this trend. Adding some battery-powered or plug-in wall lights can be a great way to achieve this look in your own home.

Another great option is adding track lighting, which is the perfect solution for busy kitchens, home offices, and craft areas. You simply adjust the position of the spotlights to better see the areas of the room that need the most lighting or spots you want to highlight - and they’re easy to manoeuvre as your needs or furniture layout changes. The same ambience can be created with flexible arm lamps too.
