When it comes to designing your home, there are often endless amounts of inspiration and ideas that you could incorporate into your design scheme but it can sometimes be hard to know where to start or how to recreate the desired look.

Often one of the first steps to making sure your design scheme is cohesive is by pulling out a paintbrush and adding a lick of paint to the walls. A really easy, cheap and massively trending design trend at the moment is using paint as a feature.

There are so many techniques and styles that allow you to use paint as a feature such as a stunning limewash wall, the use of colour blocking or even painting your ceiling to create an optical illusion!

Colour Blocking

Colour blocking is a cheap but massively effective way of creating a stylish and creative feel to a room. The opportunities are endless on the shapes and styles you can create. Colour blocking can be used to frame a certain object such as a piece of artwork, to create a ‘panelled’ look in a room or to even create an optical illusion of taller ceilings.

Firstly, decide which room you would like paint and which colours you would like to choose. This can be one singular paint colour if you prefer a more uniform look or alternatively, you can mix a variety of colours together to create a fun and bold look. Once these choices have been made, it is time to get creative!

DIY "Wallpaper" and murals

Another fantastic way of using paint as a feature wall is by designing your own murals or ‘wallpaper’. This isn’t only a great way of having complete creative freedom, it is also a fraction of the price of wallpaper as you only need a variety of tester pots to create your desired look.

To create this look, simply consider what you would like to paint on the wall for example polka dots, rainbows, abstract curves etc. Once you have decided on your style, simply take a small brush and begin painting directly onto the wall.

Top Tip: We recommend experimenting with colours and placements on a piece of paper first before painting directly onto the wall. This can allow you to stay on track and work through the design quicker.

Limewashed Walls

Limewashed walls are a huge trend in 2022 and it isn’t hard to see why. These feature walls create a homely, elegant and stylish feel to a room and we can’t get enough of it!

Limewash paint is a specific type of paint that is applied to the walls in a criss-cross motion to add different layers of tones and textures. These feature walls look fantastic in calming spaces such as bedrooms, living rooms and bathrooms due to the calming and organic feel of the paint effect.
