We’re a nation of dog lovers, with an estimated population of 10.6 million pet dogs according to the PDSA.

Dogs are part of the family, which means that when you move to a new home, finding great walking spots for your four-legged friend becomes a top priority. Whether you're relocating 5 miles down the road or 50 miles, having insider knowledge of the best dog-friendly walks and green spaces nearby is incredibly valuable. Amid the hustle and bustle of unpacking and settling into a new area and a new Strata home, our helpful guide will make it easy for you to get out and about with your furry companion from day one.

Clumber Park

Our four-legged friends have always held a special place at Clumber Park. In fact, the Clumber Spaniel breed was developed here when the estate was home to the Duke of Newcastle. Now cared for by the National Trust, Clumber Park proudly holds a three-pawprint rating, with a wide range of dog-friendly facilities for you and your pup to enjoy. Less than 30 minutes away from Promise, our collection of homes in Bolsover, there are plenty of open spaces for dogs to stretch their legs, but it's important they remain in sight and have reliable recall, meaning they return to you the first time they're called. You’ll also find clear signage around the park indicating where dogs need to be kept on leads, helping to protect both your dog and the local wildlife that calls the park home. Dogs are welcome to join you outside the Turning Yard café, and for an extra special treat, there’s Central Bark, a dedicated dog-friendly café offering water bowls, toys, dog products, and even a warm water dog shower to clean up muddy paws before the journey home! Clumber Park also hosts weekly dog-walking socials and a monthly group walk - perfect opportunities to meet fellow dog lovers and explore the park together.

If you’re after a walk that’s a little closer to home, Carr Vale Nature Reserve is an ideal option. This peaceful wetland spot, with its mix of open water, marsh, and grassland, is a haven for local wildlife. It’s a beautiful place to explore - just be sure to keep your pup on a lead to help protect the wildlife around you.

Roundhay Park

Roundhay Park

Just 20 minutes from Entice and only 13 minutes from Kudos, both located in Leeds, you’ll find the beautiful Roundhay Park. With acres of open space, it’s the perfect spot for your four-legged friends to explore and burn off some energy. If you plan to let your dog off the lead, be sure they have a strong recall to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for everyone. Dogs are welcome to join you on the outdoor terrace at the Lakeside Café, and there’s also a convenient takeaway kiosk offering drinks and snacks - ideal for a quick refreshment break during your walk.

Waters' Edge

Barton-upon-Humber is home to several nature reserves, thanks to its scenic location along the Humber Estuary. One standout is Waters’ Edge Country Park and Visitor Centre, a haven for diverse wildlife and closeby to both of our collection of homes in Hull - Attraction and Dream. The park boasts a network of walking trails that wind around tranquil ponds, through lush reed beds, woodlands, and vibrant wildflower meadows. While dogs aren’t allowed inside the Visitor Centre, they’re more than welcome to explore the country park, as long as they’re kept on a lead. A water bowl is provided at the entrance to ensure canine companions stay hydrated during their visit.

Beverley Westwood

Beverley Westwood and Beverley Beck

Just an 8-minute drive from our collection of homes in Beverley, Beverley Westwood is a fantastic spot for a dog walk. With plenty of free parking and wide open spaces, it’s perfect for a game of fetch or a peaceful wander through ancient woodland. You’ll often see cattle grazing, so be sure to pop your dog back on the lead to ensure everyone stays safe.

If you prefer a more relaxed stroll, Beverley Beck offers a scenic canal-side walk that’s ideal for both you and your four-legged friend. Tucked away from the town centre, its flat, accessible paths make it suitable for walkers of all ages and abilities. And if you're up for a longer outing, you can even loop your walk back around to Beverley Westwood for a bit more of an adventure!

Gedling Country Park

Just a few minutes from Grace - our collection of homes in Arnold, Nottingham - you’ll find Gedling Country Park. It’s a beautiful spot, home to all kinds of wildlife across grasslands, wetlands, and woodlands. The park is helpfully divided into zones, so you’ll always know where your dog can safely explore. Red zones are off-limits to dogs due to grazing livestock, and orange zones (around the visitor centre and car parks) are lead only. But there are plenty of green zones where your dog can enjoy some off-lead freedom, just be sure they’ve got great recall before you let them roam free. Once you’ve both had your fill of fresh air, you can wind down at the park’s café. Dogs are very welcome in the outdoor seating area, making it the perfect spot to relax together.

Sandall Park

Sandall Park

A favourite with dog walkers, Sandall Park is an ideal spot for a dog walk and is just an 11 minute walk from Sublime, a beautiful collection of homes in Edenthorpe, Doncaster. With plenty of green spaces, woodlands and lakes, it makes for a scenic dog walk that both you and your furry companion will enjoy. You’ll also find a dog friendly area, where your pet can enjoy some time to roam freely off lead.

A great local gem worth mentioning is Branton Dog Field - just a 10-minute drive from our homes at Sublime. It’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for a secure, enclosed space where your dog can enjoy some off-lead time. Whether you’re working on recall or have a reactive pup who needs a calm, controlled environment, this field offers peace of mind. You can book 30-minute or 1-hour sessions (starting at just £5 for 1 dog and 1 hour), with options available for multiple dogs too.

At Strata, we understand that buying a new home is about more than just bricks and mortar - it’s about finding the right location to truly enhance your lifestyle.

That’s why we carefully select areas with access to great schools, essential local amenities, and excellent transport links, helping you enjoy comfort and convenience every day, and a welcoming environment for every member of the family,  including your four-legged friends. With beautiful green spaces, nature reserves, and dog-friendly parks just a short distance from many of our collection of homes, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing there are plenty of places to walk, play, and relax together from day one.
