How to destress at home

There is nothing better than walking through your front door, kicking off your shoes and getting comfortable on the sofa with a brew after a long day. Your home is your safe space where you can relax and unwind from the stresses of everyday life, but sometimes we need a little bit of extra help to truly relax. Keep on reading to find out more about our top ways to destress at home.

Create a mini spa at home

Turn your bathroom into your very own relaxing spa at home and take the time to truly pamper yourself and unwind. Begin by creating a calming ambience within your bathroom by turning off any of the main overhead lights and focusing on softer, warmer lights. Top tip: If available, use your illuminated mirror as ambient lighting to create that true spa look and feel.

Next, it is time to run the bath and add your favourite bubble bath and salts to allow the steam to fill the room and set the mood before you begin soaking in a luxurious hot bath. Don’t forget to bring along your favourite book to allow you to escape and unwind.

Incorporate relaxing scents in your home

It is no secret that scent can play a huge role in our everyday mood and wellbeing so it is super important to add your favourite relaxing scent into your own home. We recommend incorporating relaxing scents such as sandalwood, patchouli, lavender, and vanilla into your candles and reed diffusers to create a warm and cosy feel in your home.

One of our personal favourite scents which you may have seen featured within our show homes is patchouli and vanilla by Villa Hermano. This scent creates a warm and homely feel to a room which instantly makes you feel relaxed.

Did you know that we also have our very own Strata scent which includes undertones of Violet and Orange Blossom paired with a touch of Musky Floral Accord and hints of Lily and Jasmine, making it the perfect scent to make your home feel like a tranquil safe haven. This scent is on the house and you will receive your very own Strata reed diffuser once you have picked up your keys and settled into your beautiful new home!

Use mood lighting instead of overhead lighting

Lighting within your home can instantly change the look and feel of a room so it is important to take the right steps to turn your space into a cosy, relaxing haven. Whilst overhead lighting and spotlights are amazing for creating a bright and fresh look to a room, when it is time to destress and unwind, we recommend reducing the amount of bright lights and focusing more on a darker and cosier atmosphere.

The first rule for creating a relaxing feel with lighting is to turn the ‘big light’ off as we say in Yorkshire and swap it out for softer, ambient lighting such as lamps, candles and lanterns. This will instantly create a more tranquil feel to your room, allowing you to get comfortable and begin to unwind.

Take time to bake

Baking is a great activity to do alone or with your family to allow you to unwind and destress. (Not to mention the yummy treats at the end of course!) Your kitchen is often described as the heart of the home and we completely agree, it is where most of us typically spend a lot of time so why not make it a part of your unwinding schedule?

If you are feeling adventurous, sit down and browse your favourite cook book for a new experimental recipe to try…you may find a new signature bake! Alternatively, if you want to play it safe with the reassurance of no burnt buns or soggy bases, you can stick to your old faithful baking recipe!
