Hosting Halloween is the perfect opportunity to combine some spooky fun with welcoming your friends, family, and neighbours to your new home. Here are our top five tips to make your Halloween party a frightful success:

1. Set the Scene with Spooky Decorations

Decorating your home is key to creating the perfect Halloween atmosphere. Think pumpkins, eerie lighting, cobwebs, and creepy figures like skeletons or ghosts to give your home a haunted feel. Don’t forget the interior – spooky centrepieces, hanging bats, and themed table settings will keep the atmosphere going indoors.

Remember, these decorations don’t have to cost a lot. Make some DIY reusable decorations out of old sheets or cut out bats and spider shapes from scrap paper and hang them around your home. You could even collect twigs and fallen leaves to create centrepieces. Not only will these still be super effective and make for fun activities, they’re also much more sustainable.

2. Create a Themed Menu

Entertain your guests with a Halloween-inspired menu. You could serve creepy canapés like ‘mummy’ sausage rolls, ‘eyeball’ stuffed olives, or a spooky punch for drinks. For something more filling, a warming stew or pumpkin soup can be a great option, especially for autumn evenings. Get creative with how you present the food and use eerie names to add a fun twist.

3. Plan Spooktacular Activities

Make sure your guests have plenty to do with some themed activities. You could host a pumpkin carving competition or organise a spooky treasure hunt. You could even set up a mini haunted house walk-through to show off your new home! And everyone loves the classic apple bobbing right? Don’t forget to hold a costume contest – everyone loves the chance to win ‘best dressed’!

4. Have a Killer Playlist

Music plays a big role in setting the tone for your party. A Halloween playlist with classics like “Thriller” or “Ghostbusters” mixed with eerie instrumental tracks or creepy sound effects will keep the vibe just right. Just search ‘Halloween’ wherever you listen to your music, and you’ll be sure to find a whole host of ready-made playlists.

5. Meet Your Community

Halloween is a great opportunity to meet your neighbours, especially if it’s your first Halloween in your new home. Let them know in advance if you’re hosting a party, especially if you expect it to be loud or go on late. Better yet, consider inviting them over!

With these tips, your Halloween party is sure to be a hit! Happy haunting!
