Origin is in Featherstone close to the market town of Pontefract. It is well served by public transport and just off the A645.

Living in Featherstone

Featherstone is a small town in the city of Wakefield with a rich mining history and a popular rugby league club. There are a number of good schools in the area, and the development is conveniently located for access to larger towns and cities including Wakefield, Pontefract, Leeds and Doncaster. 

Origin is close to the A645 to Pontefract and A638 to Wakefield. The M1 and M62 are also within easy reach. 
Featherstone has a busy high street just a short walk from Origin where you’ll find a collection of shops and local convenience stores. Purston Park is just a 1-mile walk from Origin with open fields, children’s play area and a pond to feed the ducks.

At 0.1 miles, Featherstone Girnhill Infant School is just around the corner from Origin and has an outstanding rating from Ofsted. Oakhill Day Nursery is on the same site, and provides pre-school childcare from 8am to 6pm every week day. The nursery received a good Ofsted rating. 

Featherstone Purston Infant School is 0.4 miles away and St Thomas’ CE Junior School is 0.5 miles from the development. Both achieved good in latest Ofsted inspections.  

St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School & Sixth Form College is 2 miles from Origin welcoming students from ages 11 to 18. The Sixth Form College provides A Level and vocational courses for 400 students and has invested in its environment and buildings. The school achieved a good rating from Ofsted.

Health & Fitness

Local GP services are provided by St Thomas Road Surgery and Station Lane Medical Centre, both less than half a mile away from the development. 

Origin is 2.9 miles from Pontefract General Infirmary, and only 10 minutes by car. The number 157 Metro bus service from Wakefield to Pontefract takes you there in around 15 minutes. The bus also stops at Pinderfields Hospital, 9.3 miles away in Wakefield.

Featherstone Sports Centre is less than 1 mile away with a gym, fitness classes and swimming pool which offers lessons, lane swimming and splash zone. 

The Featherstone Rovers play regular games at the Big Fella’s Stadium, 0.6 miles away. Keep an eye out for the recently renamed Strata Homes Stand. The club has an under 16s and under 19s club, as well as a ladies team. The Rovers All Stars Academy hold dance and cheerleading classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Featherstone is 6.4 miles from the A1 and M62 with links to Leeds, York and Doncaster.
The Metro 149 bus service runs from Pontefract to Wakefield through Featherstone as does the Featherstone Rover from the Ross travel group travelling between Featherstone, Pontefract, Castleford and Wakefield.

The number 28 Stagecoach and Tates Travel bus service runs from Pontefract Road to Barnsley stopping at Nostell Priory along the way, as well as Ackworth, Kinsley and Hemsworth.

Featherstone Railway Station, managed by Northern Rail, is 0.6 miles from Origin with services between Wakefield Kirkgate and Knottingley stopping at Pontefract along the way.

Station Lane is the main high street in Featherstone and at just 0.3 miles away, is a short walk from Origin. There are a number of small and independent shops including a Post Office, fresh fruit and veg store, barber shop, chemist and Yorkshire Bank.

A market trades here every Thursday from 9am to 4pm offering goods from food, gifts and clothing. A Tesco superstore can be found less than 3 miles from the development.

For high street fashion and interiors, Junction 32 Outlet Shopping Village is 4.5 miles away in Castleford. Stores include Gap, Marks & Spencer, Next, Barbour and kitchen cookware brand Le Creuset.
