Nature is intrinsic to everything we do at Strata.

We strive to create spaces where people can enjoy access to nature and a good quality of life.

During the planning process for our developments, the team work closely with wildlife experts to uncover ways in which we can support and enhance the natural habitats of a variety of species, through the inclusion of biodiversity and nature.

Designing For Nature at Cherish

When designing our Cherish development in Shirland, Alfreton, we identified a range of different ways we could support the existing wildlife population and encourage it to grow and thrive alongside our customers.

Hedgehogs and bats may be spotted in and around the development plus many species of birds, reptiles and invertebrates such as pollinating insects. Our neighbours over at Shirland Primary School shared with us their recent art project, where they visualised the vibrant and varied mix of species that call Cherish home.

Here’s some of their drawings, which one is your favourite?

How You Can Support Local Wildlife in Shirland

There are many little things that we can all do to help the wildlife in our area, here are a few:

  • Help hedgehogs by keeping spaces for them to travel through your gardens, provide food in the spring and before they hibernate in autumn.
  • Create habitats by leaving areas of your garden wild. Long grass and wildflowers are great for pollinating insects.
  • Add some wildflower to your garden, it will add a splash of colour and create shelter and food for bees, butterflies and more!
  • Enjoy walks in the fresh air but try and stick to the paths and keep dogs on leads to avoid disturbing small animals.
  • Please take your litter home or use bins, rubbish can cause damage to plants and wildlife.
  • Boxes will be installed around the community for hedgehogs, insects, birds and bats, please do not disturb these as they may be occupied.
