#MyStrataStory - Finding The Perfect Family Home in Derby

Shelly and Alex moved to our Definition development in Derby with their daughter late last year. We find out more about how the couple fell in love with the Montreux, and why they couldn’t wish for better neighbours.

Finding the one

Shelly and Alex are originally from Hampshire, but relocated for Alex’s job. After several months of renting a townhouse, the couple decided it was time to invest in a place of their own. They’d been on the lookout for a spacious new home in Derby when they came across Definition.

After visiting the development, located on Prince Charles Avenue in Mackworth, Shelly and Alex instantly fell in love with the Montreux – but there was one slight problem.

“There was only one of the Montreux available, and somebody else had already made an early bird reservation,” Shelly reveals.

“We left our details with Liz, the Customer Experience Manager, who said she would let us know if anything changed.”

It was only a week later that the couple’s dream came true. Liz phoned to say the Montreux had become available, and they didn’t hesitate to put down a deposit.

Making it theirs

The layout of the Montreux was what really caught Shelly and Alex’s eye. The size of the second floor living area was a standout feature, as was the quality of the finish.

One of the benefits of buying a brand new home is having the option to personalise it right from the start, which is something Shelly and Alex were keen to make the most of.

They invested in lots of optional upgrades, from a state-of-the-art sound system to spotlights. Shelly describes her individual style as clean, high-gloss and contemporary, which she was able to reflect in her choice of interiors.

Embracing the community spirit

Shelly and Alex have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity at Definition. Site Manager Darren and Customer Experience Manager Liz have been on hand to guide the couple through the home buying process.

There’s also a real sense of community at the development that they are really proud to be a part of.

“At Christmas, one neighbour popped round with home-baked gingerbread biscuits and a card,” says Shelly.

They’ve also been willing to lend their neighbours a helping hand, too. Alex offered to look after a neighbour’s garden until they bought a lawnmower – and received a box of chocolates and card to say thank you.

Shelly offers her advice to anyone who might be thinking of following in her footsteps. “Take a look at what Strata has to offer before making a commitment anywhere else. You might live to regret it!”
