Things to do - Destiny

On the doorstep

With two major cities within easy reach, you’ll never be short of things to do, but there is also plenty to see and do moments from home.

There’s a fast food outlet a two-minute walk from the development, and you can find all your everyday essentials in the nearby Co-Op convenience store and ASDA supermarket 1 mile down the road. In this area you will also find a post office, snooker club, Lloyds bank and Adwick Leisure Complex, where you can enjoy an afternoon of swimming or have a go at ten pin bowling.

Destiny is off the A1(M), giving easy access to the motorway and the surrounding towns and villages. A short drive will take you to local attractions like Brodsworth Hall, a stately home and gardens that date back to the Victorian era. Further down the road, you’ll come across Owston Hall, a 17th century country house and hotel with an 18-hole championship golf course and a luxury spa.

There’s plenty of dining options surrounding Destiny. If you’re staying local, you’ll find traditional pub food at The Highwayman and Indian cuisine at Aagrah, which is very popular with locals. 

Schools & learning

There are a number of schools with a good Ofsted rating in the area, including North Ridge Community School, 1.3 miles from Destiny, which provides education for children aged three to 19. Another mile down the road you’ll find Adwick Primary School.

Woodlands Primary School and Outwood Academy are also both less than 1.5 miles away, so there are plenty of options when choosing the perfect route for your children’s education.

Higher education
Doncaster College’s town centre campus, The Hub, is 5.3 miles away from your new home in Doncaster. More than 500 full and part-time courses are available to students, including courses in computing, early years, education, humanities and social studies, music and performing arts, sports and advanced technologies.

Courses are available to students aged 16 and over and include apprenticeship schemes, undergraduate and postgraduate opportunities, as well as professional qualifications.

 

Health & fitness

Keeping fit
Adwick Leisure Centre, 2.1 miles from Destiny, has a swimming pool and a wide range of health and fitness classes, including pilates and body attack. There’s also a bowling alley and children’s play area to keep younger visitors entertained.

World Fitness Gym provides 7,500 square metres of facilities including a free weights area and designated zones for cardio resistance and lifting machines. The gym is 2.1 miles from the development.

Staying healthy

Princess Medical Centre provides weekday services and is 1.9 miles from Destiny. Also in easy reach at 1.8 miles is Woodside Surgery while Carcroft Health Centre is 2.4 miles away.

Destiny is 6.3 miles from Park Hill Hospital, considered one of South Yorkshire’s leading private healthcare facilities. The practice has invested in advanced medical technologies to offer a wide range of treatments and services. Doncaster Royal Infirmary is 6.6 miles away where there’s an accident and emergency department.

 

Getting around

Destiny is just off the A1(M), giving you easy access to the centre of Leeds, located under 30 miles away and Sheffield, also under 30 miles away. The A1(M) can get you onto the M18 in under 15 minutes, giving you good links to cities such as Hull and Leicester.

Adwick train station is less than 2 miles away and bus services run past the development. The 50, 50a, 54 will take you into the town centre, and stop at the bus stop directly outside the development. Trains from Adwick to Doncaster run around every half an hour and can get you into town in less than 15 minutes.

Town centre travel
Once you’re in the town centre, Doncaster train station offers great transport links to cities across the UK, including London King’s Cross, which is less than a two-hour direct ride away. You can travel as far as Edinburgh in a little over three hours and services are regular to many other major cities. 

Getting around the town centre is easy, with plenty of buses linking up to major attractions. The 55, 56, 70, 72 or 205 buses run from the interchange to Doncaster Lakeside every five to 10 minutes, where you can enjoy shops and leisure facilities, including the Doncaster Dome. You can also visit Yorkshire Wildlife Park by bus, with services running every five to 10 minutes.

 

Shopping

Danum Retail Park on York Road is 5.1 miles from Destiny, with stores including Currys, The Range, Dreams and Carpetright, it’ll help be the place to help set you up in your new home.

Doncaster Frenchgate is 5.5 miles from the development and is home to more than 120 high street and boutique stores. The centre is open seven days a week, and there are entertainment facilities for children on site, as well as plenty of options for grabbing a bite to eat or drink.

Explore Doncaster market
Doncaster market is one of the oldest historical markets in the north of England and it has recently been regenerated. Market days are every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday and traders sell everything from greetings cards to haberdashery. 

You can find every type of fish imaginable and pick up locally-sourced fresh fruit and veg. There’s also a range of boutique stalls offering up a selection of books, handcrafted items and vintage furniture.

 

Up & coming

Woodlands is a village that sits 5.5 miles from Doncaster town centre. It is a designated conservation area with improvement work on-going on the open spaces to embrace this status and improve quality of life for local residents.

Doncaster town centre is a few miles away, and with major redevelopment plans set to begin over the coming years, residents will see what a lively hub the town is becoming. 

The Civic and Cultural Quarter will soon be welcoming a 984-seat cinema and four family restaurants to complement the recent addition of Cast theatre, providing a vibrant cultural and leisure development for locals to enjoy. 

Plans for a £6 million development on the Lakeside have also been given the green light, which will see new businesses and drive-through units moving into the area, creating around 200 new jobs.
