UP AND COMING
Wakefield Council is currently investing in various projects across the borough, including the Five Towns Regeneration scheme, which covers Castleford, Pontefract, Knottingley, Normanton and Featherstone. Its aim is to inspire and encourage new investment and development across the five towns.
Castleford is also benefiting from Wakefield Council’s Castleford Master Plan. This is pushing for the development of housing and employment land within the Castleford Housing Zone, which runs along the Aire River Corridor. With the support of government funding and private developers, it’s expected there will be an influx of new homes in Castleford.
Castleford has made a name for itself as a hub for retail and distribution over recent years, as well as an entertainment and shopping destination. This has largely been thanks to the Junction 32 complex and nearby Xscape.
Investment is continuing to benefit the town. Construction has recently finished on Europe’s largest processing and distribution centre for TJX Europe, which is expected to create 1,800 jobs. Plans are already underway for phase two of the development, which will include a 600,000 square foot warehouse.
