Living in Hull

Hull is located on the banks of the river Humber on the east coast of Yorkshire, with the heritage coast and the Wolds countryside nearby. Voted the UK’s City of Culture 2017, Hull hosts events throughout the year with dedicated festivals for jazz, comedy and the September Freedom Festival, celebrating art, culture and music. 

The city centre offers museums, galleries and beautiful waterside scenery. With three shopping centres, you’ll find all your favourite labels alongside vintage independent boutiques. 

Amber is close to a number of schools, including two with outstanding Ofsted reports. It is less than 4 miles from the impressive Humber Bridge, and has good transport links to the A15, A63 and M62. The development is 8 miles from the charming market town of Beverley and 30 miles from the seaside town of Bridlington.

The closest secondary school and 6th form is Sirius Academy, 1.1 miles away. The school specialises in environmental science and sport and has state-of-the-art gym facilities including a recording studio, a performing arts suite and a hair and beauty salon. It received outstanding in its latest Ofsted inspection.

The University of Hull in the city centre, 3.3 miles from Amber, is in England’s top 20 for graduate employability.

GP services close to Amber are provided by Kingston Health on Wheeler Street, 0.4 miles from the development, and Newington Health Care Centre, 0.5 miles away. Hull Royal Infirmary is 1.5 miles away via Anlaby Road. There are frequent buses to the hospital including the Humber Flyer, the 66, 155 or 350 services.

Gym 24 Seven is 2.5 miles away inside Princes Quay, one of Hull’s main shopping centres. Classes include Zumba, spin, body combat and yoga, and the gym is open 24 hours a day. Nuffield Health, 3.4 miles away, has a state-of-the-art gym, swimming pool and onsite physiotherapist. It is also home to the Tennis Academy with free court hire for members and tennis coaching for children and adults.

Transport

The A63, less than 2 miles from Amber, connects to the M62 west to Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool. The A15 over the River Humber via the Humber Bridge heads south to Lincolnshire. 

Hull Paragon Interchange is the integrated rail and bus station at the heart of the city, 2.1 miles from the development. First Hull Trains operate services to London King's Cross while Northern Rail provide regular services to Manchester, Sheffield, Doncaster, York, Bridlington and Scarborough. 

Buses from Boothferry Road to the city centre include the EYMS routes 60A, 64 and 66, and the 350 Stagecoach service, and take 15 minutes on average. 

There are direct ferry links from Hull to Rotterdam in Holland and Zeebrugge in Brussels, with daily overnight crossings. Humberside International Airport is 16 miles from Amber with flights to Spain, Italy, France and other European destinations.

There are three shopping centres in the centre of Hull. Princes Quay, 3.4 miles from Amber, sits on stilts above Prince’s Dock and is home to high street favourites Topshop, River Island and Monsoon. Dining options include Pizza Express, Ask and the family-run Greek restaurant Cuckoos. There is also a 10-screen Vue Cinema. St Stephen’s is 2.4 miles away with brands including Zara, Next and USC. 

Alternatively, head to Whitefriargate in Hull’s Old Town, where you’ll find the Grade II listed Hepworth Arcade, 3.8 miles away. The glass covered passageway is home to smaller retailers including Beasley’s, Hull’s oldest independent shop selling retro vintage clothing.

There are pubs, takeaway restaurants, an independent family butcher and a Post Office within 1.5 miles of Amber. Sainsbury’s is 0.9 miles away on Anlaby Way and Tesco Express, on Boothferry Road, is 1.5 miles from the development.

The Deep is an award-winning aquarium located 4 miles from Amber, overlooking the River Humber. The striking building is home to 3,500 types of fish including sharks, rays and sawfish. It also has a colony of gentoo penguins in the Kingdom of Ice enclosure. 

Hull city centre has activities and entertainment for all the family. The Old Town, 3.4 miles from the development, has a collection of free museums. Take a carriage ride into the past at the refurbished Streetlife Museum of Transport, or come face to face with a woolly mammoth at the Hull and East Riding Museum of Archaeology. 

Hull Truck Theatre, 2.2 miles away, has a café, drama workshops and a programme of comedy, music and family productions. While Hull New Theatre, 2.5 miles away, has just celebrated its 75th anniversary.
