Living in Ackworth

Living in a small village means Elegance homeowners can find just about everything they need right on their doorstep. 

Around the corner you’ll find the Post Office and a convenience store. A short stroll will take you to an excellent selection of shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs, including local favourites The Angel Inn and Ego Restaurant’s Beverley Arms, where you can enjoy an excellent Sunday lunch. 

The Electric Theatre is around the corner and offers tapas and drinks. You’ll also find a popular and welcoming community-run library down the road from your new home.

Elegance homeowners are also spoilt for choice when it comes to scenic locations. Fitzwilliam Country Park is close by, with open fields, great walking and cycle routes and a fishing pond. Hemsworth Water Park and Playworld is easily accessible by car, ideal for summer swimming and picnicking. 

Nostell Priory with its stunning parkland and lakes is five minutes’ drive away with 1.6 miles of National Trust land to explore, as well as the famous rose gardens, orchard and adventure playground. Four miles down the road you’ll find Farmer Copley’s farm shop and play farm, complete with 7 acres of maize maze in the summer.

Schools & learning

Elegance isn’t short of choice when it comes to prestigious schools. Ackworth School, a boarding and day school for ages up to 18 is 1.8 miles away. 

Offering a full academic timetable and extracurricular activities, Wakefield Independent School is a day school for three to 16-year-olds, recently rated outstanding by Ofsted and less than 2 miles from home. 

Bell Lane Primary School and Mill Dam Junior and Infant School are less than a mile from Elegance and offer nursery provision for pre-school children. Both received good in their latest Ofsted inspections.

Education for older students
Oakfield Park School, 1 mile away, provides secondary educational support to children with learning difficulties and special needs. It has an outstanding rating from Ofsted.

Wakefield College is 7.6 miles away with A-level courses, apprenticeships, higher education and professional qualifications.

Health & fitness

College Lane Surgery is 1.1-mile from Elegance with a Lo’s Pharmacy right next door. Trinity House Orthodontics is less than half a mile away offering private dental care and plans. The nearest hospital is Pontefract General Infirmary 4.8 miles from the development. Pinderfield Hospital, north of Wakefield, is 7.8 miles away. 

Fit 4 Life half a mile from Elegance offers personal health and fitness training along with exercise classes and a fully equipped gym.

The Hemsworth Sports Centre, 3 miles away, holds fitness classes including Zumba and boot camp. There is a dance studio, outdoor sports grounds and state of the art fitness suite with a range of membership options. 

Getting around

Ackworth is well-connected to local towns and cities, sitting 19.2 miles away from Leeds, 14 miles from Doncaster, 7.7 miles from Wakefield and 5.5 miles from Pontefract. 

With easy access to the A1, M62 and the M1 and excellent road and rail links, Elegance is ideal for commuters. The M1 is 10 miles down the road, and the M62 is less than 7 miles away. 

Your public transport options
Metro buses run from Wakefield to Ackworth and terminate in South Elmsall. Buses run every hour and also stop at the National Trust site, Nostell Priory, 1.5 miles from Elegance. Stagecoach and Tates Travel runs services from Pontefract to Barnsley stopping in Featherstone, Ackworth, Kingsley, Hemsworth and Brierley. 

Your nearest train station is Fitzwilliam, less than 2 miles from Elegance, with Northern Rail links to Doncaster, Leeds and Sheffield.

Shopping

As well as the Post Office and a convenience store on the doorstep, many of the surrounding shops are a short stroll away from Elegance. 

The well-stocked village Co-op is 1 mile away, providing you with all your home essentials – there’s even a Peacocks clothing store inside. Next door, you’ll find the family-run Ackworth Garden Centre, which includes a gift shop and country garden café with hearty home-made breakfasts, lunches and sweet treats. The Card Gallery has a range of cards and a personalisation service.

Further out of town
Local favourite Farmer Copley's Farm in Featherstone is 3.7 miles from Elegance, where you can stock up on great Yorkshire produce and flowers. Pontefract is 5 miles away and has a local market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as well as a farmer’s market on Fridays.

For a selection of discounted high street and designer brands, Junction 32 Outlet Shopping Village in Castleford is 5 miles away, with easy access off the M62. 

Alternatively, head to Leeds 19.2 miles down the road and enjoy the ultimate shopping experience at Trinity Leeds, the Victoria Arcade and range of independent boutiques.

Up & coming

Ackworth’s location between Pontefract, Barnsley and Doncaster makes it perfectly placed to benefit from redevelopment works taking place in the towns.

A new highway, known as the Wakefield Eastern Relief Road, has recently opened between the A642 and A638, making travelling to nearby towns and cities even easier.

One of the village’s main draws is its schools, including the prestigious Ackworth School. More new homes in Ackworth are being built in order to meet this demand and to place families in the most sought after catchment areas.
