Amanda and Tom had been renting an apartment in the centre of Derby for six years when they decided it was time to search for a place of their own. They knew they wanted to stay around the city, and it was a chance encounter with our Definition development in Mackworth that completely changed the course of their search for a new home…
Originally from Peterborough, Amanda moved to Derby for university, and decided to stay in the city after graduating from her teaching course. She was living in a shared house when she met her now partner Tom in a bar.
The pair moved into an apartment in central Derby for six years before deciding the next step was to move somewhere more permanent – and that’s when they discovered Definition in Mackworth
“We didn’t even look at any other developments.”
The couple initially had their hearts set on a Victorian-style property with lots of character. In fact, they hadn’t even thought about a new build home. However, after seeing the signs for Definition they decided to take a look – and their minds soon changed.
“We didn’t even look at any other developments,” explains Amanda. “We instantly knew we wanted a brand new home and that Definition was where it was going to be.”
Their only challenge was deciding between the Sassari, a three bedroom home designed over two storeys, or the three-storey, three-bedroom Geneva. After sleeping on it, the next day they called Customer Experience Manager Liz to place a primary reservation on a Sassari home.
Tom was left to make the all-important design decisions when Amanda went on a teaching trip to Borneo. White gloss kitchen cupboard doors, matching carpets throughout and waterfall showers were just some of the choices he made. Thankfully, Liz was available to lend a helping hand.
“Liz was really great at keeping in touch and letting us know that everything was going OK.”
“We only visited Definition four times while our home was being built to check on progress,” says Amanda. “Liz was really great at keeping in touch and letting us know that everything was going OK.”
The couple moved into their home in October 2016. All of their white goods were delivered the day they got their keys and, with a little help from friends and family, they were unpacked and moved in almost straight away.
Since then, Amanda and Tom have been keen to inject their own personality into their home. With simple styling and splashes of colour, they’ve included an eclectic mix of contemporary furniture, statement vintage pieces and kitsch accessories.
Six months on, Amanda and Tom are settled into their new home. Watch their video and take a look inside.
