Lets do Rattan right

Interiors|09 September 2020
Rattan has to be one of the biggest trends to come out of summer 2020 and it’s not stopping there. This beautiful trend looks great in any season and when paired with the right accessories it makes quite the feature. Here’s our top tips on styling rattan right and creating a style that will last the whole year.
Lets do Rattan right

Headboard heaven

Headboards are really simple to style. It’s all down to the fabric, pattern, colours and textures you include when choosing your bedding, cushions and throws. Rattan has a beautiful raw wooden texture to it and so you want to let that stand out as the headboard is the centrepiece here. For summer, you may want to go super light, soft, neutral tones to let the room breathe. But in the winter, we’d cover the bed with rich terracotta or blush pink tones. Create a really cosy vibe with deep olive green throws and textured cushions. Layering is the key when it comes to styling a room for winter.

Bedside style

Bedside styling can be a tricky one. You don’t have much room to play around with and you want to strike the perfect balance between looking great and being functional. With that in mind, we think flowers and plants are the best way to style your rattan bedside table. Not only are they great for your home and are instant mood booster, they’re super cheap to change to fit the season we’re in. And, if you’re not the best at looking after plants and flowers, faux is always an option!

Feature lights

Light fittings are super easy to style. Choose a warm light bulb instead of a cool LED light bulb and this will enhance the textures in the wood. Warm lighting is also key when getting your home ready for the winter months, it instantly gives the room a cosy feel. It’s also important to consider what’s around the light. Whether it’s a pendent, ceiling light or lamp you shouldn’t clutter the area around it. It’s a feature piece, so let them do all the talking.

Chair time

Rattan chairs are becoming increasingly popular and we can see why. They create a great feature whether that’s around the dining table or in the corner of a room as a standalone piece. They’re also easy to style and change up depending on the season. If you’re looking to style the chairs around your dining table then let the table do the talking. Create centre piece that compliments the chairs, bringing out the textures and colours and replicating them in your centrepiece. If you’re wanting to style just one chair in your bedroom or lounge for example, then throws, cushions and vases are a great way to do this. During the spring/summer months, opt for soft neutral cushions and a beautiful stained-glass vase with dried pampas grass to sit alongside it. In the winter, try a dark plum throw and a small side table with books on. It’s all about creating a mood and utilising that space to its full potential, whatever the weather or season.
