How to transition your home from summer to autumn

DesignInteriors|29 September 2020
We may have just experienced a mini heatwave in the middle of September, but autumn is fast approaching and so is the transition between the two seasons in your home. Get ready to swap out your fresh blooms for pumpkins, here are our top tips on how to change up your home interiors ready for autumn/winter.
How to transition your home from summer to autumn

Seasonal accessories

This is one of our favourite tips to styling your home in time for autumn. Seasonal accessories are great for setting the tone for the rest of the home and allowing you to really be creative with the idea. So, we say; fill your home with pumpkins! Decorate your fireplace, dining table and kitchen side with them, add candles and dried flowers and create a magical autumnal scene for everyone to enjoy. Besides, who doesn’t love a trip to the pumpkin farm?

Throw in the throws

Layering is key when it comes to styling your home for the cooler months. Blankets and throws add depth to any room and create a super cosy feel. Look at the room you want to add the throws to, use that as your base for the colours you choose and accessories your bed, sofa, arm chair or even dining chairs/benches with them. Richer, more autumnal shades will always create the cosiest feeling. And, if you don’t want to leave your throws lying around, simply roll them up and store them in a basket close by, ready for anyone to grab.

Spicy scents

Autumnal scents will really make you notice the change of season in your home. From Cinnamon Apple to Pumpkin Spice there’s a scent for everyone to enjoy. Have a candle in your bedroom, bathroom and lounge area so that the scent can flow through the whole house! You’ll soon be in the spirit for hot chocolates and cosy movie nights in.

Earthy tones

This goes for everything when it comes to styling your home for autumn/winter. The earthier and richer the tones, the better. Whether you’re adding scatter cushions, throws, fresh bedding or even your candles, fill your home with tones such as deep green, navy blue, terracotta or dark mulberry.

Dried blooms

We can always tell when spring/summer is upon us from the fresh blooms that start to appear in our gardens and in our homes. And although there’s no reason why you can’t carry this on throughout the winter months too, we just love how dried blooms look this time of year! The dried, earthy tones add a beautiful Scandinavian finish to your home and make it look set for the months ahead.
