Five ways to style your hallway

DesignInteriors|17 September 2020
Styling your hallway isn’t straight forward. It's a functional, often small space that you don't really spend any time in. But, it's also the first room everyone sees when they enter your home and first impressions count! Here are five ways you can style your hallway and make the most of your space.
Five ways to style your hallway

Mirror, Mirror

Mirrors make a great addition to your hallway. They reflect the light and make the room appear bigger, which is perfect for a narrow, often quite dark space. Floor to ceiling mirrors create a real feature too and allow you to maximise your space.

Slimline storage

Multi-functional storage is key when it comes to getting the best out of your hallway but we don’t always have the floor space for it. Calm the caos by opting for slimline, unobtrusive storage. Then, add boxes and baskets to create additional storage. Don’t shy away from making a feature out of your storage either, just because it’s a small space doesn’t mean it has to be empty. Go bespoke and create something that works for you and your home.

Hooks and Shelves

Exposed storage like hooks and shelves are a great way for people to keep their hallways clear. There’s nothing worse than overcrowded coat pegs or a cluttered shelf. Banish the build-up of household ‘stuff’ by keeping on top of what you keep in your hallway. Keep frequently used shoes out of the way of the front door by stowing them away. Have just one jacket per person hanging in the hallway and pop the out of season coats in the wardrobe. As for your shelves, mask the mess with a basket to keep the keys, post and any other essentials you need to grab on your way out the door. Another great tip; invest in radiator covers. They hide your radiators and double up as a stylish shelf adding further storage to your hallway!

Light and bright

Keeping your hallway light and airy is really important. Often, your hallway lacks natural day light so by opting for neutral tones and textures you can make it feel light and airy, like it would if there was lots of day light. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colour and texture, try a half and half wall with contrasting tones and shades on the top and bottom half of your wall or add texture with a neutral wallpaper or panelling. There are lots of options when it comes to the colour scheme!

Sweet scents

Adding scent to your hallway may not seem like an important styling tip but we promise it will make all the difference. This scent will greet you when you first come home and will welcome your guests when they come to visit. Whether it’s fresh cotton, sweet vanilla or apple cinnamon choose a scent you love and that you know others will love too. Not only will it make your home smell great, candles and reed diffusers look great too and are the perfect accessory for a shelf or radiator cover.
