The 2020 Trends Forecast

Digital detox

2020 is a not only a new year but also a new decade, which makes it the perfect time to make a positive impact on your mind and wellbeing. There has been a definite shift within interior trends to mirror this sense of tranquillity and relaxation with Dulux’s colour of the year being ‘Tranquil Dawn’ and especially by creating spaces for a ‘digital detox’.

Creating a zen zone or reading corner is a perfect way to start your journey to a digital detox. Find a quiet space within your home such as a corner in your living room, bedroom or even a snug and make it your go to place to put your feet up and de-stress. Adding a comfy armchair or love seat and pairing it with a textured throw and some comfy cushions will create the perfect recipe for relaxation. Adding some mood lighting such as your favourite lamp will ensure that this doesn’t only create a peaceful ambiance but will also be perfect lighting to read a book before bed. Our top tips for a digital detox is to turn all of your technology off including your phone, computer and get creative with painting or even start to write a gratitude journal. Your home is the place where you can truly let your hair down and relax so why not make the most of it and have your own space to have a time out?

Raw and refined

A huge trend that we are loving so far is the shift towards ‘raw and refined’. This trend touches on a more stripped back approach to interiors by incorporating more natural and sustainable items within your home. Homes are becoming less pristine and we are seeing a growth in raw edges and imperfections such as natural wood and reclaimed metals found in rustic dining tables and chairs. You can achieve this look by adding muted earthy colour pallets into your home with the use of painted walls or small accessories scattered throughout your interiors. Some of our favourite paint colours at the moment ‘French Grey’ ‘Lead Colour’ and ‘Mushroom’ from ‘Little Greene’ as well as ‘Broccoli Brown’ ‘Mouse’s Back’ and ‘Dead Salmon’ from Farrow & Ball.

If you don’t want to commit to painting your house, you can also achieve this look by incorporating earthy tones through accessories such as vases filled with pampas grass or dried leaves Abigail Ahearn has lots of products that will help you create the most amazing feature with her range of foliage or through the use of natural materials such as wooden trays or baskets.

Let's hang out?

Sometimes it feels like we never have enough surface space, whether it’s on your desk or in your kitchen which is why this next trend is one of our favourites.

We are seeing a huge growth in the use of overhanging aspects and details within the home. These trends can be found in the use of pendant lighting which we are seeing everywhere at the moment, wall hangings such as macramé and also the use of over-hanging house plants such as ivy or sting-of-pearls.

This trend is perfect for creating an extra dimension to your interiors and it also helps utilise our space as much as possible; which is what interiors is all about.

Over-hanging plants create a perfect talking point for guests within your home and instantly create a stylish and show stopping look. Incorporating plants into your home doesn’t only take your interiors to the next level, but they also improve your air quality and have also been proven to increase creativity and productivity as well as lift our mood.
