The story

Each year, we choose a cause to support, and Strata’s family, friends, suppliers and customers come together to raise much needed funds for our chosen charity. In 2019, that charity was Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS), a Yorkshire-based charity that offers support and refuge to anyone affected by domestic abuse. They currently help over 5,000 people every year, providing refuge accommodation for families who need to escape, as well as support to people living in their own homes.

In 2019, we raised another record-breaking total of over £156,000 for IDAS. It’s a life-changing amount, and we hope to beat our own personal best again for this year’s charity, b:friend, a charity that aims to stop social isolation and lonliness in the older generation.

B Friend
Introducing b:friend – Strata’s Charity of the Year for 2020
This year, we are supporting b:friend; a Doncaster based charity who aim to end social isolation and loneliness in the older generation, one befriender at a time. The charity has taken matters into their own hands and are growing a community of volunteer befrienders who pledge to visit a socially-isolated older neighbour near them for one hour per week for a cuppa and a chat. It’s just an hour out of their day, but it can make a world of difference to a person who otherwise has no-one.

Mike Niles, founder of b:friend and befriender himself, says “I believe the work we do is so important because we see day in day out, when they have a befriender, and get involved in things we do, there’s a change in their psyche. They now know someone loves them and looks out for them and just wants to know they’re well.”

“The sort of funding that Strata raised [in 2019] would be utterly game-changing for a charity of our size. So many old people’s lives often get forgotten, so I am really excited to work with the Strata family to reach more people.”

Matt Bloomer, Head of Customer Journey & Events at Strata, says “We can’t wait to get started on supporting b:friend this year. At Strata we believe in strong family values and building communities."

"We see this as an opportunity to play our part in helping people who we see as our wider family. I have already experienced some of the amazing work b:friend does and the value it brings. I know the whole team is behind supporting b:friend and we will be going all out to beat last year’s total. Every penny raised for the charity will be match funded by Strata, who are hoping to reach another record-breaking total by the end of 2020! Please show your support by donating today."
