Last weekend marked the latest in a busy calendar of charity events, as our employees and contractors took on Doncaster’s Dragon Boat Challenge. It was all in the name of a good cause, as we're on course to raise as much money as possible for our Charity of the Year, Little Hiccups.
Our brave rowers, known as Living the Dream, were among 35 other teams competing for the coveted winners' trophy and title. It's the seventh year in which the Dragon Boat Race has been held, as teams from companies and charities battle it out in ornately-crafted 30-foot dragon boats.
Fun for all the family
The event had a real family feel, as not only was there the race to enjoy, but also stalls selling homemade jams, cakes and buns, as well as a fairground. Despite a wet and windy start, you could not dampen the teams' spirits, or the crowds of supporters who came to cheer them on!
Our team organiser Nadine Easton said: “One of the highlights was not falling in the water! But what was really great was seeing everyone pull together for Little Hiccups.
“We had site workers, brick layers, joiners, contractors and staff from all departments at Strata, working together to compete and raise money.
“The atmosphere was great and the amount of support, despite the bad weather, was amazing.”
Going the extra mile
Each team received a VIP Paintball experience voucher worth £400 for taking part. We've decided to donate our voucher to be auctioned off at the upcoming Summer Ball on July 16th to raise even more money for Little Hiccups.
