How do you follow up an event as big as the Charity Ball? By walking 24.5 miles across the Yorkshire countryside, that’s how! Brave members of the Strata team swapped their dancing shoes for walking boots as they embarked on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.
The challenge took our 14 walkers on a scenic trail through the Yorkshire Dales, over the Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough peaks. Andrew Spivak, Buyer at Strata Homes and veteran walker, took on the challenge for the ninth year running and tells us more about the day.
Keeping up momentum
“The weather was perfect for walking and everyone was in good spirits when we met at 7:30am,” says Andrew.
“People soon started to tire though. It can be a slog at times, but it’s an enjoyable slog. There is no better feeling than walking in to Horton-in-Ribblesdale village afterwards knowing what you have just achieved.”
Hitting their target time, the whole team made it back in 12 hours, with Andrew and his partner completing the challenge in an impressive nine hours! The walkers were rewarded with a well-earned pot of tea and healthy serving of carrot cake.
Rising to the challenge
There’s no denying that the route is both mentally and physically challenging, and Andrew admits it’s the people and the cause – our Charity of the Year, Little Hiccups - that keep you moving when you’re struggling.
“You meet people along the way and have a bit of a chat and a joke as you pass each other, which keeps everyone’s mood up. Knowing that you’re raising money for such an amazing cause makes the sense of satisfaction and achievement even greater.”
We’ve got plenty more charity events planned for the rest of the year, so take a look at our events calendar to see what’s coming up.
