We talk to new homeowners Josh and Eileen who have just moved into a new Rosas home at Origin in Featherstone
Josh and Eileen have been together for eight years. Although they both grew up in the same small town in Ireland, it wasn’t until they both studied at Newcastle University they got to know each other and became a couple. Seven years on, post-graduate study and career opportunities led them to settle in Yorkshire - where their Strata story begins.
A home between two cities
When it came to location, Josh and Eileen were searching for a home between their work places. Josh works in Leeds as a Broadcast Journalist for ITV and Eileen is a Chemistry Teacher at a secondary school near Hull.
They explored lots of options and developments, but couldn’t find anything that ticked all their boxes.
Eileen heard a new show home was about to open at Origin in Featherstone, and they organised a visit.
“As soon as we set eyes on the Rosas home, we knew it was perfect,” says Eileen. “But we assumed it would be way out of our budget. It had the separate kitchen and living room we were looking for, and we loved how everything, from the placement of the windows to the quality of the fittings, was considered and well executed.”
Why rent when you can buy?
After discussing how much they paid per month in rent with our Customer Experience Manager Alison, it was soon clear their dream Rosas home could be a reality. “Much to our surprise, a new home was an affordable option and well within our budget. A week later, we made the decision to buy the last remaining Rosas home at Origin and the rest is history!”
After their home purchase was agreed, they had a meeting with a mortgage advisor, and a week later their mortgage was agreed. When their home was finished in April, all that was left to do was pick up the keys. Josh says, “Alison was so helpful when it came to buying our home. She was fantastic, nothing ever felt stressful to us because it was all taken care of. It felt like we were cheating, it was that easy!”
Pizza and proper ale
When they first moved into their home they didn’t have any furniture. Friends and family in Ireland put a shipment together, but it didn’t arrive straight away. On their first night they ordered pizza and ate it on the floor on a couple of cushions before going to sleep on an airbed. It didn’t take long to turn their home into the cosy escape it is today.
One of the reasons Josh and Eileen decided to settle in Yorkshire was its similarity to their home town, Josh says, “We like the north of England because it reminds us of home. We love the scenery and the people are friendly and welcoming. I also love proper ale and there’s lots of it in Yorkshire!”
Yorkshire dream come true
To Josh and Eileen, their new home will always be special. “Unlike renting, having a home of our own means we feel settled in Yorkshire”, says Josh. It’s also been the start of a new adventure for the couple, who are now engaged and planning a wedding!
We asked Josh and Eileen what advice they would give to anyone thinking of buying a new home, and they said, “We had a great experience buying a new home. Don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions. You can ask anything, they’re very open and will help you make your home what you want it to be. The help doesn’t stop when you move it. If you have any questions you can always pick up the phone. Everyone from Alison and the Site Manager Nick to the lads working on site have been brilliant.”
